— the creator behind EEF. I love cooking and sharing Japanese and Korean food in my own kitchen. Some dishes are traditional, while others are what I’m currently enjoying around me. I hope my recipes inspire you to try something new or revisit a familiar favorite.

We also introduce Chinese-inspired dishes as they are often reinterpreted in Korean and Japanese kitchens. These adaptations reflect how regional taste and culture shape everyday meals into something uniquely local.

When it comes to Southeast and South Asian cuisines—like Thai, Vietnamese, or Indian curry—we approach them with care and admiration. Due to differences in climate and seasonal ingredients, these styles of cooking often feel less familiar in our day-to-day home kitchens.

Hi, I’m Lena

– the creator and director of Eastern Edge Flavours.

 

I was born and raised in South Korea and am currently based in Seoul. I studied Directing in the Broadcasting Department during university. After graduation, I worked in the production department of a major news network, where I experienced the fast-paced intensity of live broadcasts every weekday morning. Seeking broader experiences and deeper learning, I later pursued graduate studies in New Media.

 

It was during this academic journey that I discovered my true passion for food—not just as nourishment, but as a form of cultural expression and storytelling, which resonated deeply with my background in media.


This realization felt like a natural evolution of my lifelong habit of cooking, shaped by regular exposure to both Korean and Japanese cuisine since childhood. The fusion of my media studies and my hands-on experience in the kitchen sparked an exciting sense of synergy—one that hinted at the creative potential of combining both worlds. What began as a personal hobby gradually evolved into a more serious pursuit. I went on to win several prestigious awards, starting with the Royal Cuisine Competition, followed by national recipe contests hosted by government agencies, and other food industry accolades.

 

From 2021 to 2023, I lived in Dublin, Ireland, London, UK, and Paris, France—a transformative chapter in my life that offered a front-row seat to how Korean and Japanese cuisines were interpreted and adapted in different cultural contexts. These experiences deepened my commitment to preserving their authenticity while reimagining them for today’s global audience.

 

After returning to Korea, I earned national certifications in Korean, Japanese, Chinese, and Western cuisines, as well as in mixology, baking, and pastry arts. Additionally, I hold a private certification in cake decoration, and achieved WSET Level 3 Award in Wines with Pass with Distinction, further expanding my understanding of food and beverage pairing.

 

Combining my expertise in media and food, I am passionate about creating engaging content and sharing meaningful culinary knowledge. This platform allows me to offer recipes that are both approachable and authentic, while also sharing the stories, flavors, and inspirations behind each dish.
